WCOnline is the scheduling, recordkeeping, and reporting solution for writing and academic support centers. Trusted by over 1,500 centers around the world, WCOnline is completely customized for each client, and unbelievably supported--all for one low monthly price.
The Online Tutoring Module allows for consultant and student to meet in a synchronous space with shared whiteboard, and text, video, and audio chat. The Module costs an additional $35 per month or $385 per year and can be added to any WCOnline subscription at any time.
How does it work?
The Online Tutoring Module is designed to seamlessly integrate with the WCOnline scheduling and recordkeeping application. Once installed, administrators can designate any tutor as available for online tutoring. Once done, students that make appointments with those tutors have the option to meet online or in the traditional face-to-face session.
For online consultations, tutor and student log in to WCOnline at the time of their appointment. Then, the two parties simply click "Start Consultation" within their WCOnline control panel in order to begin the online consultation and begin the online, synchronous meeting.
What are the Module's features?
The Online Tutoring Module has the following capabilities:
Whiteboard and Online Text Editor: The Module allows tutor and student to share a common Microsoft Word document. Either party can edit the document, including making text changes, adding highlighting, and changing a documents style and formatting. Once edited, changes are instantly viewable by both tutor and student. Furthermore, the edited document can be easily saved or emailed after the session is complete.
Text Chat: Similar to most popular internet chat applications, the Module allows tutor and student to type back and forth in a text-based chat window. Text typed by one party is instantly viewable by the other party, allowing tutor and student to carry on a textual conversation.
Video and Voice Chat: If one or both parties have a video camera or webcam or even just a microphone attached to his or her computer, the participants can elect to share video and audio while conducting the online session. This allows the tutor and student to see and hear each other while discussing a shared paper.
The Online Tutoring Module was designed to work on any internet connected and java-equipped computer (such as any computer that can run Firefox or Internet Explorer and that can browse the internet). However, for optimal performance, tutor and student should use a high-speed internet connection (such as a cable or DSL connection). The Module is platform independent and can run in Windows, Mac, or Linux environments.
The Online Tutoring Module provides the interface to allow you to extend your center services onto the internet without interfering with the policies, procedures, and tutoring practices that you have implemented for your center.
